I am looking for a 200mm - 300mm lens.My budget is around $250 right now.I see several but not sure what 1 to get.

Cannon

100-300 4.5-5.6 USM $280

75-300 4-5.6 III USM $190

55-200 4.5-6 II USM $210

Sigma

28-200 3.5-5.6 Asph HZ MACRO $190

28-300 3.5-6.3 Macro $249

70-300 4-5.6 DL Macro Super II $149

70-300 4-5.6 APO Macro SuperII $209

Also can use a 300 mm lens for nature and other things? As I would really like amacro lens too but dont mind waiting a bit for it.Or should I wait until I can get a better lens, butthat could be 5 or 6 months.

Thanks for any help.

Charlie

Peripatetic I havent been taking alot of pics this week because ofthe weather and working, but went out today and found out I shake alot so not to many in focus. This is the nicest of them but it seems to be a little out of focus.I hope to take some more this week but the weather needs to hold up a bit.

here are some more pics.I think they are pretty good but still having trouble with shake. When I have more time and the weather is better I will use my tripod.I know my ability isnt there yet but the lens takes nice crisp pics.

Striderxl

Taking macro pictures are always difficult without a tripod because of the high magnification... although your images look pretty sharp to me, but kind of bright -> IMO you can increase the shutter a bit which will darken the images and help your steadiness at the same time

Agreed - they look fine - thoughthey are reduced to the point I can't see significant detail. But macro requires a tripod. Period. And with long stemmed plants a wind shield of some sort in needed unless it is dead calm.

Was wondering if there is a way to reduce them and still show more detail?

I usually will crop a section and post it. Also, when saving the cropped imageuse the lower JPEG compression settings (less compression).
