Both rotten from the core out. Just wasting money there.

Sell some furnature and get an L.

Or

Consider 50mm prime 1.4 or 1.8 if tight for dough. Will offer you areal photographic experience.

Only exception to L Rule, but you didnt hear it from me. Got it!

Amatheu,

the 18-50 2.8 will give you a little more speed and more ability to seperate your subject from the background.. and therefore could be worth the price for you...

otherwise, the 18-55 canon is a fine lens.. and is a good bargain at 100USD more for the kit including it.. it might be prudent to just get the kit for now and then see what your needs are for a second or third lens.. you will have a better idea after using it for amonth or two..

but, and i hate to do this, i will have to agree with LBoy that getting a 50 1.8 prime is always a good idea.. why not, its only $70-80.. and with the 1.6 crop factor it makes a nice little portrait lens..

best regards, dustin

"So while reduced image coverage and shorter backfocus may help a little at the wide end, it's not really reasonable to expect them to make a $100 kit lens work like a $1000 "L" series lens! If you really want all the highly technical stuff, here are the MTF curves": http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/reviews/18-55.html

... and regarding the 50mm f/1.8 - http://www.pbase.com/fstopjojo/zoomvprimes :blah:

Clearly the 50mm f/1.8 is brighter, but it's not as sharp as the two EF-S/DC zooms until closed down to f/8!
