I have the Xt w/ the 18-55 kit lense and the 50mm 1.8. I would like more reach and don't really need the extra wide angle. Mostly take pics of my kids ages 4,7 and 9.

I called our local camera shops to see if they had the canon 28-105 3.5-4.5 in stock. One did but all three shops said it was't a great lense and I shoud pay the extra 200.00 and get the 28-135 IS. which is bigger and heaver.

I would like to use this for a walk around - keep on most of the time lense, so the smaller, lighter, cheaper28- 105 was more appealing.

I don't need a super awesomelense but I want something better than the 18-55 that I have now.

We are going to the river this Sat. for a week so I need to decide soon.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

I know that the 28-135 is a very good lens. It does make an excellent walk around lens.

FYI - http://www.tawbaware.com/canon_lens_test.htm

BTW the kit lens is not that bad, but if you want a small and light lens with more range, this 'digital' lens will do it too: http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/len...mp;navigator=6

Wow! That article just saved me $200.00. Thanks

Any thoughts on the Sigma 18-125 or 18-200?

the 18-125 is a great value.. good range, sharp as it needs to be.. great frugal minded "walkabout" lens

Would the 18-125 be better than the Canon IS?I was looking for a walk around lens and thought the 28-135 IS would be good for this, but im wondering if the sigma might do the job?

Thanks

Charlie

Reviews on the internet said EF28-135 is such great lens everybody who has
the extra $ should get one. I got my copy few days ago though I am yet to
discover the true power of IS. :-)

the canon 28-135 IS is superior to the Sigma 18-125, but it is also quite a bit more expensive.. if you have the money, go for the canon, if not, the sigma will suit you quite well as a walkabout.. i love my 28-135 IS, it may not be the optical equal of say a 24-70 2.8 or a 100 2.0 prime, but it sure is versatile and is optically quite good..

Still confused!

I tried all three lenses yesterday w/ my camera. Came home and looked at the pics on the computer. Yes, the 28-135 IS was sharper, but also quite a bit bigger, heaver, and $200.00 more. between the sigma 18-125 and canon 28-105 I think I liked the canon better. However I took a lot of pics inside the camera shop w/0 flash so many came out blurry-still hard to know what to do...

Any last thoughts ?
