great test, I've just been waiting for someone to get this lens in stock, I think it is a must have lens. I was in Arlington, TX. last weekend and the Sigma rep was at Arlington Camera and he didn't even have a demo yet.

I've looked at some of your lens comparisons often lately (and they've been bookmarked since I saw your fast zoom comparisons). The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 is on my short list (but, I can't decide if the larger size/weight is worth it or not compared to some of it's competitors like the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di).

I'm looking around at lenses right now, trying to decidebetween availableoptions (for both a new camera and lenses). I really haven't fully decided on either one yet.

The new Sigma 30mm f/1.4 has also caught my attention, and your comparisons seem to confirm it's quality. I don't know when Sigma plans to release this lens in other mounts, though (and if they are even going to support some models like the KM 7D, Pentax *istDS, etc.).

Anyway, I'm sure other forum members here appreciate your work, too.

Thanks!

Thanks, I'm glad the tests are of use to you. Both the 24-70 and 28-75 are very good optically; you should try them out at a store and see how you like them in handling, AF speed, build, etc. Best wishes to you.

i was very interested in this lens as well. here's another test that found on the net of someone comparing it to the canon 35mm 1.4L lens. it's scary when you think about the price of this lens (which is a fraction of the L glass) yet the pictures are on par.

I've returned my 30 f1.4EX and kept my 35 f2. The Sigma is definitely sharp and produces nice saturated captures, but the 2 issues with it are: 1) front-focusing and 2) very strange bokeh patterns. This is being reported by many around various forums. We'll see with time if it turns out to be a major problem or not. That said, there are many others who are really enjoying it. Again, time will tell.
