Anyone used this new variation of the Sigma? I had the regular Macro APO II version of the lens, just got it a short time ago. I just exchanged it for this version, but it won't be in for a few days. Just wondering if anyone has used it yet?

It's not on their USA site yet, but here it is on the UK site:
http://www.sigma-imaging-uk.com/lens...0-300mmAPO.htm

And, a product announcement:

Seems like it's the same lens with different coatings to help reduce flare and ghosting more.

That's the new 'DG' version - It's MTF looks darn good for the price and it has a RED ring! :-)

Hi,

You are right . the only change is the different coatings and the DG rating. It is also $10.00 more in price. If you had the previous model that would have been fine.

My rule for Third Party lenses is buy nothing older than one year old. Than you don't get the imcompatiblity Error 99.

I received this lens today and I'm impressed. I paid $198 for it on Ebay, brand new in box. I was expecting only a lens and the hood, but Sigma includes a very nice, heavily padded lens case in the box! I've not seen it come standardwith any other Sigma lens. It's focus is a bit loud, but nothing unusual for this range of lenses and it's pretty quick, with a bit of hunting over about 220mm in lower light. The pics are quite nice, though. See the following for a pic of what's in the box and some very hastily taken shots.

Can't wait to go use it this weekend for some real shots.

All the Sigma I bought so far came with the case and hood with a leather hood included in the more expensive lenses as well...

IMO the EX green case with the flap is slighly more luxurious though :G  :-)

That is so weird...when I bought my APO Macro II (which I traded for this lens), it didn't have a case in the box (makes me wonder why now!)...and that was the only other Sigma lens I had bought, so seeing it here surprised me.

Yeap - even the 1.4x or 2x teleconverters came in their own cases

Most folks forget to add theses accessories to the purchased price of their lenses...

Probably not. The only reason I did was that I had only had the Macro II version for less than a week when I found out about this newer revision. And, luckily the store let me return that one and order this one.
