OK first of all plz excuse my english. :-)

I'm pretty new to SLR world.I'm not a professional photographer but 'd love my picture turn out good.I'm interested in 350D + lens with it.I already choose Sigma 70-300 APO DG for my Tele lens(I really don't mind 3rd party lens). So, what i really need is a all aroundwide anglelens that cover 18- 70/85/135 or something.Oh and my budget israther tighti'm looking for something around 300$ or below. As stated i'm not serius photographer just want something fairy good(for it's price) .I'vedig though this forums and find many24-70 lens but that's not wide enough for 1.6 crop which translate to 38mm.I think most of mymy shots wouldbe from this lens rather than tele one.Anyadvise appreciated. Thanks in advance.

you may consider sigma's 18-125 DC.. fstopjojo has some good examples of what it can do here.. http://www.pbase.com/fstopjojo/4lenstest

you may also consider sigma's 18-200 DC as well.. i have not used this lens personally, but i know a few ppl that are quite accomplished photographers with many $$ spent in lenses that rave about it.. tamron makes one as well, but i really know nothing about that lens..

both of these lenses should meet your price requirements..

regards, -dustin

Dustin has suggested a very good lens based on your $300 budget and needs. You could probably get the Sigma 18-125 and Canon 50 f1.8 for around $300. Another nice lens would be the Sigma 18-50 f2.8, though that's about $420. Best wishes on your decision.

Thx again Hards80.i'll check it out. However,i'm afraid i need a little more help. After i do some researchi got confused with sigma lens "zoom power" cuz in their website thay statedthat Sigma 18-200 has angle of view of69.3 to 7.1 degrees but a longer range model 70-300 APG DG they say 34.3-8.2 degrees.So,18-200 at full tele 200mm will cover 7.1degrees but [email protected] tele endcover larger 8.2 degrees angle of view. This waythe 28-200 would have "more zoom power" than 70-300????I don't think it's possible.I'm pretty new to SLR world ,please enlight me.Thanks in advance (once again :lol

Cheers

Konpanas << that's my real name

BTW yeah i'm (actually was)a big fan of Diablo II :-)It's a darn great game.

You are talking about zoom ratio which has nothing to do with the Filed Of View or magnification factor!

i.e 200/18 = 11.11 about 11x, and 300/70 = 4.28 about 4x
-> A 'standard' lens which approximate the FOV of a person is around 50mm for a 35mm, so a 200mm is about 4x (200/50) and a 300mm is about 6x 300/50 - so according to your "zoom power" the 300mm has more 'power' :-)

FYI - http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/v...mp;forum_id=65

... The 8.2 degree @ the Sigma site is for a full frame (how about adjusting it for the 1.6x factor?)

yea.. the reason for the difference in FOV is that the 18-200 takes in account the 1.6 crop factor since its a digital specific lens.. making it 320mm at the long end...

the 70-300 is assuming a full frame (i.e. film) camera.. the field of view with this lens (70-300) will be much smaller on a digital slr with 1.6x crop factor as it will be an effective 420mm lens..

btw- if you liked diablo II, definately need to check out World of Warcraft if you haven't yet.. i am currently addicted to the max... (sigh)..

i got it ,so the reasonof different FOV is because 18-200 assume 1.6x cropresulted in7.1FOV on digital slr.But 70-300 assume full frame so it's 8.1 FOV on full frame 35mm.(Ah Why don't they use same reference base on 35mm system?Crop factor vary with different cameras.)Anyways, thx for the tip!.

Cheers
