Dell currently has the same deal - $419 with free shipping.

Dell just notified me that my shipping date has been moved from Sept. 23 to Oct. 18. Probably shouldn't be surprised.

I just checked my order on Dell site - still says 9/26 - my original shipping date! For the price, I just hope they delay a little if they have to and not CANCEL ! ! !

Update: Still out of stock at Dell as of 09Oct2005!

I just canceled the order for the 17-85IS and ordered the Canon 10-22 for about $200 more from Dell.

My thinking was I have a Tamron 28-75 F2.8, 70-200 F2.8IS + Canon 1.4x, so the 17-85 was overlapping, but offered some wide capability, ISand a useful walk around range.

But, the 10-22 offersreally wide capability, lower CA, lower distortion, less vignetting and sharper images (at the cost of plus $200).

Hopefully, I didn't miss something here and pass on a good price ($419) on the 17-85!

I also currently have the Tamron 28-75 F2.8 and am concerned the optical quality of the cannon lense is not as good. I have found though that sometimes I want f4 or F5 and think the IS would be helpful for those shots. I have considered canceling my order but have not done so. I hope I enjoy the 17-85 lense.
