Hello all,

I have really appreciated the help I have received here before, so I am coming back with another question.

I was thinking about buying two lenses, Canon 85mm 1.8 and Canon around the 24mm range (can't remember exactly) at 1.8

Initially, I will be doing portraits... eventually (possibly years away) some weddings.

Should I go with those two separate lenses, or the CANON EF 28-70 F2.8 L USM LENS.

The two separate would probably cost me around $600 (new), or I can get a used Canon L 28-70 2.8 for around $800.

I have a bad habit of always wanting to upgrade, so should I buy the L now? Or is this not the L I should be looking at?

Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Jordan

The Sigma 24-70mm EX DG f2.8 is more popular, or atleast gotten more reviews, than the Sigma 28-70mm. fstopjojo has a nice site that compares it with the Tamron 28-75mm and Canon 24-70mm L. According to his findings, it's the "L Killer"

Ofcourse he has since sold that lens in ebay...I was really tempted to buy it off him outside of ebay since he lives literally only a city away from me. I believe he's replaced it with the Sigma 18-50mm EX DC f2.8...

There are several threads in this forum about the EF 85mm. I purchased it based on feedback from this forum and from reading FM reviews:

I really am enjoying the 85mm and I plan to use it at my next shoot (15th birthday party). The bokeh on this is lens is fantastic.

Another to consider may be the new EF24-105L . Its F/4 so it may be a tad slow. But it has good range.

I have the 28-75 Tamron and it does good work but its slower to focus and a little noisy. I have gotten some really nice shots people pics with the Tamron.
