I was also strongly considering this lens (the APO version) for my brand new 350d, As I have a TINY budget (£150) I was looking at this lens and the following :
the canon 70-300mm USM
canon 90-300mm USM

If anyone has any advice id be glad to hear it.....as for the moment Im heavily leaning towards the sigma..

The APO version of that lens is as good value as any other lens out there. If you're on a budget and need a longish zoom, buy it.
On a crop camera the image quality is fantastic.
The hassles with the lens are slow autofocus, rotating front element, weird macro focus button and of course it's slow speed. Considering lenses without these hassles are far more expensive (and ones with none of these hassles are very costly indeed) it's a fair price to pay.
