Hi, I need help on purchasing a Rebel. I am really new to SLR photography and have seen a kit with the sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 and a sigma 28-70mm f/2.8-4 lenses. I want to take photographs of landscapes, protraits, and macro. Would these be effective in caputuring good images? The kit also includes a .45x wide angle lens, 3 resolution filter kits, carrying kit, tripods, usb, digital flash, cleaning kit, and and memory card. It is retailed at $1,199.00. Is this a good price or a rip off? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I would like to purchase my camera soon.

tthe following price would be resonable
1) Rebel XT with 18-55 lens can - 820$ (there is 75$ rebate ) - 750$ effective

2) Sigma 70-300 APO macro DG - 190 $ - u can never beat this for cost benifit
( I think the lense u have mentioned is not APO which u will get for 120$)

3) Sigma 28-70 is no a good lens I would say if you have KIT lens
Rather go for sigma 24-70 f/2.8 or the famous tamron 28-75 f/2.8 - arond 350$

Do you know abt the canon triple rebate going on
That is if u get any two or three diff product from the list of camera and lenses the rebate of each of the product doubles or triples.

I.e say u buy a rebel XT - reabate is 75$
if u buy a canon 70-300 lens - reabte is 5$
since u buy both together u get additional 75$ for rebel XT and additional 5$ for ther lens
so the total rebate is 75*2 + 5* 2 = 160$

u can make use of this and buy better lenses from canon itself .

Hope this is helpful

do not be seduced by these kits with seemingly many items for a good price.. the quality of said items is usually marginal at best.. you are better off buying the base kit and gettinga few good accessories..

my advice..

get the kit with the 18-55 lens (sharp lens considering its 100$)..

and then add the 70-300 Macro Super II DG (good starting tele lens)..

a good CF card (Sandisk UltraII/ExtremeIII 1 or 2 gb)

and a nice flash (Sigma 500 Super is a great value)

that would be a nice starting kit for you..

thanks...I have seen that kit also which is 100 dollars extra.

Does the Sigma 500 support all the fancy Canon ETTL functions like the 580EX?

The Sigma 500DG super has most of the same features as the 580EX and yes it does support ETTL. Oh and did I mention the sigma is about $200 and 580EX is about $500.
