Thinking about getting an EF-S 17-85mm IS USM, but concerned the future of
1.6X crop factor. What lens have IS, compalsory 17mm on the wide side, 70mm
on the long side? Any brand is ok with me. :|

Is there any lens with zoom range between 17-85mm(in the neighbourhood)? :?
I want normal lens other than EF-S.

i don't think there's such a lens for full frame.

remember 17 is a superwide angle on FF. I think it would be very hard to include this focal length in a general zoom.

If you want to spend less money for an APS-c sensor lens, there's the sigma 18-125 and 18-200.

The 17-85 is in a class by itself. And why worry about compatibility if you have a compatible camera? This is a rhetorical question, as I understand your concern, but it is something that doesn't concern me. This is a great lens that fits my camera and that's all I need to know. If the day comes when I sell my 20D for a full-frame model, I'll simply sell this lens with it. Buy what works, shoot and enjoy.

I just bought the 17-85 on Saturday and I love it. I say go with the EF-S mount. Are you really going to spring for a 5D or 1D anytime soon?

I see, I don't really see the possibility of shifting to 5D in near future, since I am
pretty satisfied with 350D.

Get the 17-85, you won't be disappointed. When I travel it's the lens I grab first, and use the most. A circular polarizer is recommended too.
