Hello Everyone, I am new to this forum and here we go my 1st post.

As a gift from my wife, I got a EOS20D with the following two lenses.
1) Canon EF-S 17mm - 85mm Lens IS USM
2) Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

Somewhere I read that the 17-85mm is equivalent to a 28-135mm lens. I have 8 days to return any one of the lenses (not the camera). Someone please tell me the differences between these two lenses. Should I return one of them and get a different one?

As you can see I am "TOTAL DUMMY" when it comes to SLRs. I just have signed up for a course and I am sure I will learn it fast. Since I have only 8 days to makeup my mind, I am asking this question. I hope you guys are kewl with it. Any help is much appreciated guys!

Thanks

Please check the above link and choose which one would suit u. if u like more wide angel u may find 17-85 as an excellent walk aorund lens.

The 28-135 lens seems like too much of an overlap with the other lens.

Return the 28-135.

As punishment, suggest your wife buy you the 70-200 F2.8 Canon or Sigma in place of the returned lens.

as terry said, as a punishment get the 70-200 f2.8 sigma,

or if u want to punish severly ask for the 120-300 f2.8.

NHL is a big fan of this lens and i am amazed by his even 600mm teleconv pictures.

The 17-85 on the D20(Cropped Digital)is equivalent to the 28-135 on an EOS 35 MM Film camera... Putting the 28-135 lens on your D20 will give you more 45-216 with the crop factor... If it were me, I would return the 28-135 and get a longer zoom lens... Maybe the 70-300.

Thank you guys for your help. I really needed it! I have returned the 28-135mm and got a Canon Speedlite Flash Kit - 580EX. I hope this is a good move!

Thanks again to all!
