I have a 350XT...purchased the body without the kit lens at the end of October...opted for a EF 28-135 IS and a 50MM 1.8 II. I love the EF 28-135...I have gotten fantastic results with this lens, the only drawback is that it is not wide enough for my taste. I like to shoot landscapes, but I also like shooting events with people. I do not have an external flash yet and find that indoor shooting with the 28-135 is okay...the 50mm it is very good (fast) but very narrow. Over the weekend I was able to pick up a brand new EFS 17-85 IS for $350...BRAND NEW. I don't think I am going to keep it...I am either going to sell it locally, or on eBay. My thought is to keep the 28-135 and get something a bit wider. I took a look at the Tokina 12-24, the Tamron 11-18 and I liked them both, although they only stop down to f4 and f4.5 respectively. I was also thinking about the Sigma 18-50 2.8 to go along with the 28-135...because I like that it stops down to 2.8, but then again the range is very close to the 17-85.
Possible Scenarios:

Coverage from 11 or 12-135MM...great outdoor combo, but not so great for in door scenarios. (I would sell the 17-85)
50mm 1.8II
Tokina 12-24 or Tamron 11-18
Canon EF 28-135

Coverage from 17 or 18-200MM...missing 51-69mm if I go with Sigma but gaining a good indoor shooter...and a very sharp lens. (Would need to sell the 28-135...and possibly also the 17-85)
50mm 1.8II
Canon EFS 17-85 IS or Sigma 18-50 2.8
Canon EF 70-200L (This lens would qualify me for triple rebate...double rebate check is on it's way!)

The other idea would be to buy the expensive 17-40L, keep the 28-135 and qualify for the triple rebate...I have been going through my images to see what range I am shooting most...it is very tough to tell...I am all over the place. I know that after this past weekend, I shot some indoor shots at a church and I was less than pleased. Granted I was working without an external flash...I just don't know what to do.

I love the 17 -85 lens. Very good walk around lens. Not too heavy and decent wide angle and short telephoto. I just purchased the Sigma 70 - 200 2.8 to get a bit more reach on the long side. The next lens I will look at is the 10 -22 wide angle, but as of now I am comfortable with the 17 - 85 lens for wide stuff.
