Default Suggest a Lens for Canon 10D (digital SLR)?

After using my Sony CyberShot DSC-S70 for 2+ years, I am thinking of upgrading to Canon 10D (digital SLR). Unfortunately, I know little about Lenses. I need an all purpose zoom lens that is good for family groups, landscapes as well as portraits, etc.

How about something like Canon EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM OR Canon 28-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS EF USM Lens? or would you suggest something else.

Also what would be a good place in USA to buy Lenses over the Internet?

I've been using the Canon 28-135 on a D60 as my main working lens for almost a year and am generally very happy with it. It has limitations, of course. A minmum focal length of 28x1.6 = 44.8 is not wide enough for some landscape shots. Even with image stabilization and the camera set to ISO 400, the lens requires a flash for most indoor photography. Reviews indicate that the 10D takes good pictures (at least by my standards) at ISO 800; that will help. And, it is not a macro lens. In the end I bought 4 lenses, but if I could have only one, I'd pick the 28-135.

I had the 28-135mm IS lens for a while and it worked very good with my ex-D30, but because of the 1.6x CMOS effect on the lens, I can't get enough wide angel for my general landscape shots. Since I order the new 10D DSLR, I go ahead and order the new 16-35mmL lens, kinda expensive, but I now I will be happy with the performance of the lens. If you have a limited budget, then you should consider the more economy 20-35mm F/3.4-4.5 lens and the 75-300mm IS F/4-5.6. I will wait for a while before I will consider to order the new 70-200mm F/2.8 IS lens( since the 28-135mm will give me the equivalent of 200mm at longest telephoto setting).
