Hi,

I'm planning to upgrade from my current Sony F717 to a 350D. I also plan to purchase couple of lenses for this camera. I will be using the camera indoor/outdoor and for some scenic trips. We are expecting a baby and I expect to take quite a few snaps indoors and at some small functions/parties too. With limitations on my budget, this is what I was thinking of:

1. Kit Lens 18-55mm + 70-30mm IS USM

2. 17-85mm IS USM + 75-300mm f/4 USM

I do not intend to upgrade to any newer lens within the next 1 1/2 yr or so.

So, please advise.

The 17-85 IS is a very good choice.

I would choose the Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro to go with it. The old Canon 75-300 is not a very good lens by comparison.

I would also consider adding the $70 EF 50 f1.8, it's a very useful portrait lens indoors where you don't want flash. It will serve you well in taking photos of your baby.

I would seriously look at the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 EX too... as an alternate

-> you may sacrifice a stop over f/1.8 but IMO it's more convenient than swapping lenses to go wider!

Thanks for helping me make a decision. I just placed an order and waiting to get my hands on the camera and the lens.
