I have the choice between two Kit Lens combinations, and need advice on the better of the 2. Can't afford the true lens that i want - it will have to wait.

A: Standard Kit EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II
& EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 telephoto zoom lens

B: Standard Kit EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II
& EF 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II USM

about $50 seperates the two.

I'd appreciate your thoughts.

-- Sorry both options are Canon Lens Box sets. (about a $80+ from Body only then +$50)

I have the kit lens 18-55mm and the Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 telephoto lens.

I have taken some very nice shots with them both. Can't go wrong.

I agree with photo118

the APO version of the sigma 70-300 is slightly more, but it really is the better deal

go with the set that includes the 70-300, that way you have more reach

The 70-300 being talked about here is from sigma. You mention a 75-300 which is almost certainly a canon. The sigma is far superior. The old canons in that range all get very poor reviews next to the new sigma. Don't get that canon unless the bundle really makes it a give away.

Thanks for all your replies and I have been learning lots from watching and reading.

Yes it is a Canon Kit system with the Canon Len's, it is about $80+ to have the combination system over just the kit lens. I'm leaning to get the 300 lens option.... I think for the little extra now will give some range and photos and then replace later, with better.....

I don't have the $$'s to buy the lens that I'd love (about $1000) thinking the Canon 28 - 135... but it will have to wait.

What about the Tamron 75-300f/4-5.6 LD Macro (1:3.9)? I can get this lens for $100.00

Just curious...where are you getting this deal from? I'm looking to purchase a Canon Rebel XT with kit lens AND a telephoto lens in the range that you're looking at.

The "kit" with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6II & EF 75-300mm f4-5.6 lenses is $1180CAD at Henrys (www.henrys.ca). I just picked up that kit yesterday, but haven't had time to play with my new camera yet.
