I've just bought a Canon 350d and 50mm 1.4 as my best lens.

For a second, more general purpose lens, I am trying to choose between the old 35-135 I have from my previous film Eos and the 18-55mm kit lens that came with the 350d. I don't want to keep both - anyone have an opinion on which one is more worth having?

Thanks.

For a general purpose lens, I'd go for the 18-55 as it covers wide-medium tele as opposed to the 35-135 which covers normal-tele.

Is the 35-135 a better quality lens than the kit lens?

No idea!

but for general purpose, the kit lens appears to be a better choice. I wouldn't worry too much about which is optically superior. But if you really are into it, then my guess for which one is better depends on how old that 35-135 lens is. If it's really old, then I'd say the kit lens may perform better, because I've been reading how zooms are improving over time.

One thing I'm pretty sure about is that the 35-135 will not be significantly better than the kit lens (if at all). I have the kit lens, and I can honestly say that it can produce some very nice pictures when you have enough light.

Ok, thanks. I'll stick with the kit lens.
