hi guy,
i am looking @ buying the Canon Zoom Super Wide Angle EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM

this lens has an Minimum Focus Distance of 13.8" (35 cm) right?

so does this mean that i have to be only 3.5 cm away from an object to take a pics..
plus if it has a zoom then i can get even closer.. So bascaly take macro shots.. (Sort off)

i am a newbe with DSLR or SLR in general..
just looking to understand..

Not really a macro lens. Minimum focus distance is 35 cm and yes you can zoom in, but it is not a macro. I just took a look at the Canon 100mm macro 2.8. If you want macro, this is something to look at. The Sigma was $200 cheaper, but very noticeable difference in focus speed and I think the Canon was a true macro.
