just for a lark, i decided to see if the image stabilizer in my new Sigma EX 80-400 is really any good. this shot was taken at 400mm, f14, at 1/100 second... handheld! does the stabilizer work? you be the judge...

This Sigma could one of my near future candidates for tele. Did you think about (similar?) Sigma 50-500 (bigma)? First has IS and other has better range. F-stop is about the same.

I have this lens and just love it. The OS on it allows me to take hand held shots with no problems. Produces very sharp photos too. I stayed away from the 50-500 because of the lack of OS.

it's the Sigma EX 80-400 f4.5-5.6 OD APO. it's the only 80-400 Sigma makes. weight about 4.5 pounds, and fully extended it's about 105 inches long. comes with a lens hood that adds about 3.5" more to the length.

i considered the 50-500 "Bigma", but passed it up mainlybecause it doesn't have OS. clarity beats range any day in my book, and with the 80-400 i can shoot handheld at low shutterspeeds the 50-500 couldn't match.
