Hey guys,

I have a chance to buy a canon 70-200 2.8L IS USM lens for $900.00, Ebay 2nd chance offer. It say it is a film lens and have seen some digital lenses. Would you guys go for this lens and will my pictures be affected at all because it is film. I have the Rebel 350d. Just want to make sure before I screw up. I guess what I want to know is, is this the big lens that everyone wants? It's about 2 1/2 years old and not used much.

Need help fast,

thanks, Bill

I have this lens (paid around 1680.00 or so from B&H). I use it on my 20D and Mark II N with very, VERY good results. I don't know the crop factor on your camera, but the 20D is 1.6x and the Mark II is 1.3x. Just multiply the crop factor by the lens
(70-200 becomes a 112-320 on the 20D and a 91-260 on the Mark II N).

There is no such thing as a "film lens". There is only one EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS. $900 seems like a good price as this lens goes for about $1700 new, if it is in good condition which of course you never know buying from someone on ebay.

The 70-200 2.8 IS lens is indeed a great lens. The $900 price tag worries me a bit. As pointed out, the lens goes for $1700 new and even used, should go for several hundred $$ more.

$900 is too cheap for canon's top-of-the-line 700-200L IS zoom lens. I would be *very* careful to make sure you're not getting ripped off.

Found out yesterday that the offer was from a scam artist. Figures, like everyone said, $900 was too good to be true!

The used prices for this lens on e-bay are amazing, I mean you can almost get your original outlay for a vgc 1 year old lens with no guarantee, which tells me it has to be something special. Only yesterday a Canon 70 - 200 f4L lens went for an unbelievable £860, when the buy it now price today from the same outlet for the same lens is only £729, some people obviously don't do their homework.
