would it be a worthy replacement for the 18-55mm canon kit lens I use?

I'd even consider the 18 - 200. The quality will be similar, just a greater zoom range.

well I have a canon 100-300 usm and a canon 28-105 usm, the latter being a very versatile lens, but is it wide enough at the low ens, no not for all shots. Just wondering if anyone knows what the quality is like on the sigma

Based on your current lens collection, I'd pass on getting either Sigma 18 - 125 or 18 - 200. You already have the coverage and same quality lenses. Take a look at this site, it has reviews on all you lenses and the two Sigmas I mentioned.
