Hi All,

Thanks to all for the input. Does someone have any links for reviews on this Tokina - it is looking quite promising.

Also what do you think about guarantee issues - what I mean here is that most dealers I have found are in the USA and offer just a USA guarantee. I live in Europe and so this would not cover me and as far as I know there is no local agent as well here in Malta that would help out should any repairs be required. Any idea of a European supplier for such Tokina material please?

Regards.

Dear All,

I am coming up again with this issue. So I have made some homework prior to my decision and I would like to pose this question to you:

If budget is not a problem, I am considering the Canon 70-200 f/4 L USM as preference.

If budget is a problem, I will go for the Sigma 70-300 APO.

So in your opinion, if I would wait some more to save for the L series, is it worth it or is the extra range and of course lower price of the APO the way forward?

This is coming up to be a headache to put a decision on to it!

Regards.

I'll add another lens to the mix to help confuse you. :G
The Sigma 100-300 F4, it is a very sharp good lens.

From this selection my personal choice would be
the Sigma 100-300 F4
Then the Sigma 70-200 F2.8
Then the Canon 70-200 F4
My last choice would be any of the 70-300 F4-5.6 from any manfacturer. I have several different versions and am not fond of any of them.

I personally schlep the Sigma 120-300 F2.8 around.

Links to a few of the lenses being discussed @ B&H:

Do you need a 200mm or a 300mm?
-> If you don't know then no lens is long enough :-) :-)

I tend to agree with PeterP - the Sigma 100-300 F4 is really two lenses in one!
Slap on a 1.4x and it's sharper than the 100-400L @ 400mm: http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/v...549758#p549758

As NHL said:

In my mind at least, the choice is between the Canon 70-200 F4 and the Sigma 100-300 F4.

With a matched 1.4tc the Canon will give you a max reach of 280mm @ F5.6.
The Sigma will get you to a 420mm @ F5.6 with that same 1.4tc.
Both lenses I think will give very good results with a 1.4tc. so it comes down to how long a lens do you really need/want?

(We are citeing the 1.4tc as the xt is still be able to autofocus with it mounted on an F4 lens.)
