I have an old SLR camera, Canon EOS Elan, and I believe it utilizes the bayonet style lens mount. Is it possible to use the lenses for this system on the new Sony Alpha, or will they be the wrong sizeand fit for the Alpha?

All EOS lenses are autofocus - so 1st of all when you try to adapt this lens to a different mount you'll lose the AF feature
The EOS lenses also communicate with the body through electrical contacts so you'll also lose the ability to control the aperture

IMO you'll have more chance to adapt an EOS lens to a Pentax mount than the A-mount now that they have a camera with "Shake Reduction" too...

-> unless the anti-dust and the extra Mpixels of the Alpha is more appealing to you but the Sony does come @ a higher cost (~$300 since it looks like you're trying to re-use) :?
