I recently purchased my first L glass on eBay, the cartoonishly large 400mm f/2.8 Series II. We'll be going to Alaska this summer, and I just can't envision lugging that mini-suitcase it came in, so I am looking at alternatives, such as the Lowepro 600 lens case, Lightware or Kinesis.

What do you folks recommend?

Thanks,

David

Just curious - how much did you purchase it for?

Justin -

$3175 shipped, and it is in mint++ condition. Almost looks as if it has never been out of the case with the exception of a small mark left on the tripod leg mount, and the case has never been out of the closet, where it was wrapped in a soft chamois. I've seen two more go for $700 to $1000 more in the two weeks since I bought it, and from the pics the one I purchased was in better shape than either, although not by much as these were also in nice shape. It was Buy It Now for $3100, had just been listed, and I jumped on it.

Ron -

If I did that I wonder what Mae West would have to say to me.

She would have probably said: "Why don't you come up and see me some time..."

I generally use a LowePro treaker classic backpack to cart around the brick (300mm f2.8 ) There is still room to spare, not sure if a 400 would fit though.
I've got a dedicated case for the heavyish lens but after a few weeks of trying to carry the equipment bag, tripod and extra lens case gave up on it.
