Hi,

After spending a day at a local race circuit I've found why my Tamron AF70-300 F4-5.6 lens was so cheap.

In strong light the chromatic abberations were awful, I was utterly frustrated.

I don't want to spend an absolute fortune as I've not had the camera long but I want something which will give more consistant results than the Tarmron.

If anyone is interested, my full gallery is here

I would be interested in seeing the EXIF data for this photo before I could suggest any camera settings.

While I don't photographraces I do do a lot of outdoor photography and use a Sigma 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 EX OS on my Canon 350D. I have always been very happy with the results I get from this lens. With the OS this lens has I can also use it handheld, for short periods of time (as it is fairly heavy).

As far as lenses go, I just picked up a Canon 70-300mm f/4-6.5 IS USM lense and it is wonderful. I love the light weight and IS helps a ton.

Adam, what was your White Balance set to? Auto or Daylight? I guess I'm leaning towards this being a camera setting problem rather than a lens problem. I'd probably have shot this event in Raw format so that I could adjust problems like this but that can be a pain if you take several hundred shots or more.

The Canon 70-300mm f/4-6.5 IS that Justin recommends is a good lens, I have one as well. Maybe not as sharp as 'L' glass but certainly worth the cost.

The camera was set to daylight.....?

I hear there is a problem with the lens mentioned above and that they've ceased shipping?

That is the lense I'm referring to. It had stopped shipping for a few months as Canon fixed the problem and they've been shipping new lenses with the problem fixed for a few weeks now.

It is currently out of stock at B&H though as it is a highly wanted lense.
