If you've got different batteries, try them. Sometimes a voltage problem can cause odd symptoms.

But, it's more likely the sensor or a supporting component.

If it's out of warranty and Canon says the CCD is defective, you may want to try arguing with Canon that they should replace it (since it's a Sony sensor and a number of Sony sensors had problems resulting in bulletins from anumber camera manufacturers using them advising that they would be replaced for free).

It's not in the list of impacted models. But, I'd still try to get them to replace it for free anyway if it's out of warranty if they say it's the CCD. It doesn't hurt anything to ask. Of course, they may not agree to do it. ;-)

Hi Jim/ Rriely,

Thanks for your reply. But when I shoot video's I am getting good quality videos without this problem. If its related to CCD shouldnt the video also have the same problem? I am using a recharge battery and the battery lasts for about 60 snaps. I am not sure where the problem lies.

Regards,

Sundar.

Have you tried giving it a few raps? My A70 sometimes shows spurious hor. lines and lightly hittimg the bottom of the case eliminates the problem. your attached photo looks a bit different than what I normally observe.

Try reformatting the memory card, or use a different one. This has solved small problems for me in the past ... worth a try. May also be worth trying a camera reset as described on page 75 of the manual. No guarantees though.
