Can someone share what the advantages of DIGIC II are in A-series cameras? For example, I have an A520 (DIGIC) and I am looking at getting an A630 (DIGIC II). There are already other features that entice me about the A630, but I was wondering if the fact that it has DIGIC IIshould be another considerable feature.

For me, the main improvement going from Digic (my A85) to Digic II (my A620) was speed. Focusing, shutter-lag, etc. are much better.

I never had a Canon camera before my current A610. As a comparison... how long does it take for yours to be ready to shoot when you turn it on? Mine is ready in less than 2 seconds. A huge difference from my prior (non-Canon) camera.

Luisr, I just put your question to the test...and, surprisingly, I would say it takes my A520 under 2 seconds to start up as well :-)

Oh well... I have nothing else to say because this has been my only Canon camera.

What advantage does the digic 2 have?

I thought I read a review that says some DIGIC 2 units have less power consumption than previous DIGIC 2s. I assume the DIGIC 2 takes less power than the original DIGIC, but if DIGIC 2 adds many more features, this might not be true.

I had an A540 for a week (returned for S3) and I noticed both have fast power-on times. That could also be one of this chip's advantages.

Other than that, I'm sorry, I don't know.

Mike

Shot to shot will increase significantly compared the Digic processors. I do know that the A540 is supposed to take 300 shots on one set of Nicad batteries, so it probably does use less power. The speed can also be utilized by using the faster memory cards. The difference will be noticed on the Digic II when using faster memory cards, but not really on the previous models.
