I'm just wondering if I can set the Canon SD630 to record in RAW format. It appears in the manual that it can display the format...

In any case, I love the camera. I upgraded from an S500, and the Digital ELPH line just keeps getting better... and smaller.

No (you can't capture a raw file using the SD630). Shooting in raw is not supported with most current non-DSLR models from Canon.

Suprisingly, Canon even dropped raw support for some camera models that had it when upgrades were introduced.

For example, the S70 supported raw and the S80 doesn't. The G6 supported raw and the new G7 doesn't.

Hi fantomasz.....I have the A610 which is the younger brother of the A630 and find it absolutely first class in every department.

I chose the 610 because I had no need of any higher pixel count than 5 MP nor the extra facilities. A speedy robust cam with great battery life....and the 630 will be the same....you won't go wrong with it. All the reviewers seem to love it too and at its price, a real steal!

Good luck with your choice.

The SD630 or the A630? They are two different animals...

Thanks fantomaszfor correcting me, but I'm glad I made the mistake otherwise I might not have been aware of the size of the screen on the SD630 which looks huge and almost makes a monitor redundant! Thanks for posting the pic.

I'm off to read Steve's review on it....and Merry Christmas all.

I bought one for my wife for X-mas. I took it out of the box to take a look at it. Seems small for my hands, but I'm a big guy with big hands (why the wife married me). Other than that it looks like its going to be a nice addition to our camera equipment.

I do worry about the LCD screen though, it looks like its going to get fingerprints all over it fairly easily. I'll report as time goes by.
