I bought the Canon Powershot A530 at my local K-Mart yesterday, but the box was not sealed in shrinkwrapped plastic. Should it have been?

When I buy something new, I want it to be 100% new, and I stay away from buying possible display models.

I've been hearing conflicting reports as to whether or not Canon seals their camera boxes.

Any info would be appreciated. Thank you!

Most manufacturers (and that includes Canon) do not shrink wrap their digital camera boxes (or put any kind of seal that prevents a box from being opened and closed).

Sometimes you see vendors shrink wrapping them (the machines are cheap). But, that's not the case with most manufacturers anymore.

No, it doesn't. Mine wasn't wrapped either. They just put a seal on the carton flap.

My A710 was not sealed nor was my Canon scanner box.

The components in the box were, but not the boxes themselves.

The camera itself was in a little plastic bubble wrap pouch. But the pouch wasn't sealed in any way, and it looked to me as if the camera may have been taken out of the pouch at some point, just in the way the camera and pouch were sitting in the package. But I could be wrong.

Oh well. I'll try it out and see what happens. Thanks again for the responses.

I kept all my packaging and just looked in the camera box. There was no tape on the bubble wrap pocket that the camera was in. So I would not worry about it.
