You pay a lot for the black color. Also from a technical point of view silver is better. If you forget your camera in the sun, the chance of getting toasted is much much higher with black than with silver color. You really have to be cautious with a black camera when you are in the sun.

That response is totally asanine. Black does NOT cost more than Silver, & besides it looks more professional. IF the DRebel had been available in Black when it first came out, I would have gotten a Black body & not the Silver. I have had NO problems with my 30D nor my EOS-3 & Elan 7 in the Hot Mississippi Delta in the middle of the summer,(100 degrees &Lots of humidity)& they are all Black.

I never claimed that "black" costs more as a color. Rather I indicated that A640 costs a lot more than the A630 and the A640 is simply worth such a price difference. I also claimed that black doesn't bode well with an aggressive sun. It is basic physics that black absorbs sun light better than any other color and that silver reflects the sun, whence absorbs sun light as little as possible. From that technical point of view silver is the optimal color.
