While doing a search, I found a picture of the new Canon S4is. I found it on a website in a language I could not even recognise so i do not have any info on it apart from that it is 9 megapixel and has 15X zoom! In fact I doubt it is available yet as I cannot seem to find any details on it elsewhere. Here is the picture - as you can see it looks very much like the S3is.

Other features we could perhaps hope for - ISO1600, Digic III, movies up to 4Gb.... i am sure you can add to this list!

Lol, it looks like a fake picture lol, seriously i doubt the next SX in the serie will have neither 15X optical zoom nor 9mp, specially if they want to keep the S serie in its current size, personally i would be already more than satisfied if the next canon SX had better picture quality and a better lense, say Carl Zeiss or Leica for instance, and if it could focus and respond better in low light conditions, 12X optical zoom is fine already and one or two extra megapixels should make it fine too

Perhaps it is fake, 9mp and 15X zoom did seem a bit OTT, totally agree that a slight increase in mp and better quality/lower noise would be more useful but it did intrigue me!

Pure speculation but:

- 7.1 - 9.0 MP
- 12x Optical Zoom
- Image Stabilizer
- ISO1600 at full resolution with ISO3200 being a special scene mode.
- Digic III
- Face Detection Technology
- Small performance tweaks
- SDHC Support

Still no RAW mode, no adjustment dials and the picture noise will not improve.

Once again, pure speculation.

I agree with everything except the speculation about the sensor. Currently 7 MP is the highest resolution of a 1/2.5" Sony CCD. Thus the S4 will have only 7 MP. Also the S4 should have the [email protected] fps movie mode and a better display.

The picture is a touch up of the S3 IS.

The person who posted this is asking if anyone knows anything about an upgrade.

Whoever that person is, his (I assume it's male) question is on the minds of 100s, maybe 1,000s of Canon S3 owners, want-to-haves and dreamers.

Canon will enlighten us in due course.

Actually nonacs4 I was merely bemused at having found the image on what turns out to be a Thai website (thanks Sintares). I am perhaps a little more trustingthan some in that I thought it may actually be a genuine picture, albeit at poor resolution - and thought it may be of interest to other canon camera users!! However it was a little strange that I could find no other reference to the "new model".

Assuming this to be a fake, I do not personally think that an upgrade will be available until around April at least. However discussing possible feature lists is certainly of interest. Another feature I would like is to be able to change the ISO when taking photos while already recordinga movie -in this situation on the S2 and S3 it appears you cannot set the ISO and it does not even tell you what ISO value was used.

What I would like to see on the S4 - (1) MPEG-4 codec in the movie mode; (2) 7MP's; (3) much lower noise at higher ISO's; (4) remote capability for shutter release; (5) lense ring capability for true manual focus; (6) faster auto focus at the greatest optical focal lengths.

I just spoke with Canon via phone and was told they have no plans to upgrade the S3 at this time.
