Default A40 Menu? What is it asking for?

A40 users, help!

When I turn my A40 to Manual mode, 'set exp' is displayed about 1-2 sec and also if I hit the 'WB, +/-, erase' button while in Manual mode 'set exp' displays.

There is no scale at the bottom from -2 to +2, as there is in P mode at the same toggle position. Some one on another forum said to use the arrow buttons to lighten/darken the exposure, which is how it works in P mode, but there is no
-2/+2 scale in M mode, so do I just use arrows till I get the lightness/darkness effect I want, with no numeric reference point for the future?. What am I supposed to do when it request 'set exp'? I have looked in the manual... dosen't mean it's not there, just haven't found it.

Thanks AR

Default Never mind

It was a 'Duh!' question. The only thing that it does is to remind you to set the exposure... this after you turned the camera to manual so that you could set the exposure. AR
