This hack has become mature meanwhile and my A710 has become a much better camera with this hack. Though it sounds contradictary, but now you can activate automatic loading of the new Firmware without touching the original firmware. Thus you do not have to make a firmware upgrade each time you turn on the camera. It is done automaticly. With the patched RSE as a Raw converter image quality is improved substantially. The A710 suffers quite a bit from sensor blooming and RSE removes most of it automaticly. The S3 will gain probably the most, because it suffers heavily from CAs and RSE will remove most of them automaticly as well.
Script execution offers lots of new possibilities like DRI.

I can only recommend this hack.

No, this hack is only for cameras with Digic II image processor. The G7 has a Digic III image processor, which has not been hacked yet. In principle this hack is for all Digic II cameras. However, some camera specific adjustments are necessary. Currently these adjustments have only been made for the A610, A620, A630, A640, A710, S3 and with some restrictions also for the S2.
