I'm thinking about buying this cam and have heard about slow flash recycle times.
Can some of the A710IS owners post some of their real-world times from their daily use? And maybe how strong your batteries are rated for comparison?

Thanks.

I use some Duracell 2650's I think. The flash is slow...period.

The flash recycle time depends on two factors. Firstly, how much power was actually used by the flash. Secondly, the state of the batteries. With fresh batteries the flash is recharged faster. Also the quality of the battery is significant. Anyway, it takes quite a long time to recharge the flash. This camera is only for occasional flash use.

I'd say my experience is a minimum of 7 seconds between flashes.

(Using MahaPowerex 2700 batteries).

The slow recycle times are a function of only 2 AA batts. You can speed it up by skipping, or shortening, the preview display - the 710 will not start charging the flash until the preview is finished. Yes, it is a slow flash recycle, but it's a trade-off I'm willing to make. I personally hate Li-ions and since I carry a camera, and a spare set of batteries, all the time, at least with the 710, I get to carry a smaller camera and 4 less batteries (then the A640, for example).

I prefer shooting with natural ligth anyways.

Thanks. This is good to know. I really like this camera but those flash recycle times are a killer. Other brands don't seem to have as bad an issue with a 2AA setup. Why with Canon? (just thinking out loud)

I can probably deal with it but my wife will be constantly asking me what's wrong with this camera.

Thanks all for the input.
