I recently bought a Powershot SD750 and a 2 GB Turbo High Speed 150x SD card to go with it. When I place the memory stick in the camera, I get the infamous "Memory Card Error" and "Card Locked!" messages. Other memory cards work in the camera, but the weird thing is, my computer totally recognizes the 2 GB memory stick. Both the camera AND the memory stick are less than 3 days old, and I have no idea what the issue is.

Canon email help was of no assistance (no surprise there), and out of all the forums and webpages I have visited, nothing has remedied this issue.

Hopefully someone here may have a solution to this annoying problem. Thanks in advance to all!

Have you tried formatting the card on your PC?

Yes, I formatted the card on my PC, and when I try to format it on my camera, the option is totally blacked out.

I have tried formatting it using Quick Format, FAT, and FAT32, all to no avail.

For 2GB and smaller cards, it's a good idea to choose FAT as the file system type if you're formatting them via Windows.

"2 GB Turbo High Speed 150x SD card", huh?

That's a mouth full.

See if it's got a sliding lock/unlock switch on the the card (front, back or one of the edges). Some do, and it may be in the locked position (or in between positions).

You may also want to try this utility:

Yep, the first thing I checked was the lock switch, and that is fine. I tried that software, but no dice. =(

By the way, thanks to both of you for offering your help! I really appreciate it.

Just out of curiosity, what brand SD card are you using? I use the A-Data 150x 2 GB cards in my A640 and S3.

Well, it may be some kind of compatibility qurk with the camera. 2GB cards are some what of an oddball with Secure Digital:

Secure Digital Compatiblity issues with 2GB and larger cards

You may also want to try rewriting the MBR using something like testdisk, then see if it can format using something like the Panasonic SD Formatter I mentioned in my last post above. See this thread for more details on testdisk:

If that doesn't work, I'd try to RMA the card and get a replacement if other cards work in the camera OK. But, if it's a compatibility quirk with that particular brand of card, a replacement may not work either if it's using the same components.

Default card lock - unlock

Take the SD card out and look on the side. There is a little "switch" that you can click up or down. This will change the position of the "lock" and allow you to write to the disk, or to save and "lock" what is on the disk.
Don't reformat anything until you check this switch.
