It's unfair, that it's that more expensive here in europe. I got it for 265. without any extra equipement.
Yeah, the first time I found that out I was shocked as well. I was in Europe for 2 weeks and visited a few camera stores. At that time I had no idea that it wasn't individual stores that were ripping people off. The strange thing about the prices in Europe is the cost of accessories. They seem way cheaper than here in the states. I bought a camera case for my SRT 101 in Burchtesgaten for only 15 Euros. That same case here in the states would have cost me at least 30-40 dollars. I saw a tripod that I really liked, but my father talked me out of it. It was a nice one, metal and all, for only 40 euros. Do you realize that the cheapest metal tripod here in my hometown is $80? I have seen tripods go for over $100 that weren't as nice as that one!

I guess it all works out in the end,
Dan O.

Well, you should be happy it's that cheap in Germany... I'm considering buying one, and the cheapest price in Finland is 305 euros! And of course I need a CF card and some NiMH batteries, so the total price adds up to more than 350e.

Default Tarrifs

I think the high prices lie in tarrifs.

Tarrifs are designed to protect a countries industries by raising the prices for foriegn goods. We here in the states don't believe in tarrifs.

Take for example digital cameras. If Lieca always has it easy because it can make some of the lowest priced digital camera in Germany, then what motovation does it have to make a better/cheaper camera than Canon?

Now, personally I'm not a capitalist, but I don't really believe in socialism either. I really believe that a country has to find some middle ground. You guys over there have probably heard of Enron. Well I think that was a tragedy and I don't think anyone has the right to do what they were doing. That's capitolism gone wild. On the other hand, I am a fim believer that competition creates progress. Socialism often hinders competition.

I was in Europe for 2 weeks and was really impressed. It was really amazing to see towns that were 1000+ years old, and there was no "bad side of town." In my city, 1/2 is poor and crime ridden and the other half is wealthy and crime free. Thats the way it is in most US towns and cities. The laws and ordinances used to create the types of towns you have in Europe are against American beliefs. In a way, that kind of ticks me off.

Just a few things I've been thinking about,
Dan O.

Just a note to let you all know that I got the a60 for my mom and I think it will be just fine. In fact, I llike some things about it better than my minolta s414. Almost makes me wish I had gotten an a70 for myself. Oh well, there's always something better isn't there! Thanks for all your help,

Pam

She'll love it, it's a breeze to use and takes great pictures.
