I read some news releases and specs on new Canon SX100 & A720. Their sensor is still 1/2.5, same as A710. So what is the big deal about them compared to A710? I was looking for a "image quality"upgrade to my A710 but I do not see any reason toconsider any of these cameras unless you see an advantage that I may have missed.

Thanks for your insights

SX100 is compact ultrazoom with IS. No real IQ improvements.

Try 1/1.7" cameras (A650, G9) to get more on image quality.

Thanks Sarah

I checked G9 specs and I really like how it tries topack DSLR qualities into a small P&S body.

Anour-

The Canon G-9, A-650IS and SX-100 are all targeted at different segments of the point and shoot camera market.

The Canon G-9 is sort of the "flagship" of the point and shoot market. It has some zoom, the RAW format, a high mp count and it is sort of targeted toward camera enthusiasts.

The Canon A-650IS is targeted toward camera enthusiasts who are on a somewhat more limited budget, who do not require the RAW format. It sort of has many similiar features to the G-7 and G-9.

The Canon SX-100, as I understand it, and I may be wrong is paired with the A-series cameras, and it is targeted toward "newbies" and people just getting started in photography.

I hope that helps. Have a great weekend!

Thanks Sarah

I like the way you sorted them. It makes it easier to choose.
