The Canon Presentation showed that the A80 has a 9 pt auto focus. The 4.1MP censor is the exact one from the S45 and S400.

It's 6 zones as far as i know. I used it in the beginning, but i recognized, that pictures are far better without the AiAf.

The DCResource Review posts that the LCD viewfinder has 113K pixels instead 67K (canon site). May the canon site be outdated? Or there is a mistake at DCResource review? Note that it was recently updated!

The A80 street price is $399. You can get it for this
price just about anywhere....from Ritz Camera to Best Buy.

This is my first digital camera and I am very happy with
it so far as a PnS camera. I have yet to try all the manual
modes. Flash overexposed my dog in a dark room but
did well with a group of people in a lit room. I got one out of
focus shot....not sure if AiAf logic was at fault or if I tried
taking picture without doing the half down shutter button to auto focus.

One thing that may be my error is that too take candids,
I have to press shutter half way to auto focus and then there
is a slight delay in the picture when I press shutter so I
sometimes miss action. Perhaps my bad. Any advice?

first of all turn the AiAf off by default.
It is artificial, but not really intelligent, it often focuses parts you don't want to focus.

However, for fast scenes, you can lock the focus by pushing the shutter half once and push the MF Button once while holding the shutter half way down.
Now try to get a small exposure time like 1/640 or something like that. (the best thing to do this is using the manual mode.
Then you can just push the shutter without the need to focus, because you set the focus to a manual value.

Default A80 Cost

The MSRP is $499. All major US retailers have them now at a regular price of $399.
