Does the S5 offer the option to savephotos in a TIFF format or is JPEG the only option?

Only jpeg. There could be hacks etc out there but out of the box it shoots just jpeg. I just picked one up and so far its really nice!

Lots of other Powershots can save in raw format if you load the (unofficial) CHDK software (http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Downloads) but I don't think they've managed to get it working with the S5 yet.
