Hi Folks,

I'm considering the A650 instead of the S5IS. Basically, I need something that I can put in the pocket of my bird hunting shirts and have with me to take videos of the dogs etc in the field. I presently use an A710 and find it satisfactory except that it will not optically zoom during video. For flash use, I'd also like having four AA batteries instead of two in the 710.

My thinking is that I can add a teleconverter to the A650 and get all the zoom I need while still having a more portable camera.

My question though is this:

Will the A650 zoom optically during video recording?

Any other comments about this camera would be appreciated. Thanks!

Due to motor noise it wont zoom while recording, only digital zoom.

You're right. I tried one of these at Ritz with my own SD card and it has zero capability to optically zoom during video. Otherwise, it's a really super camera.
