I want to shoot with available light from a tripod and since there is no option for a cable release I am forced to use the self timer. No matter what I try , it will not work for me. The owners manual instructions are pretty simple. I hope I'm stupid and not the owner of a broken camers. Can someone help me?
Thanks

1) Click on the "Menu" button.

2) Select which type of self timer you want to use, as in 10 seconds, 2 seconds, or custom self timer.

3) Get out of the menu.

4) Just behind the shutter release/zoom button on topof the S3is a little grey button which has the single shot/multiple shot/self timer logo next to it. Press it and watch the display, it will toggle through "Single Shot", "Continuous", "Self Timer". So hit it until you get to self timer, now when you press the shutter release, the self timer will activate.

Michi,

I followed your instructions and now my camera will operate in the self time mode. After rereading the instructions I see I confused the little symbols . Maybe I would have discovered the button behind the shutter release, but I doubt it. You've helped me a great deal.
