Default Older Canon lenses

I have a Canon EOS Rebel XS with 2 EF II lenses. Tehy are auto focus. My question is how fast will they focus compared to the newer UM lenses.

Thanx,

Ron

We can't tell unless you say exactly which lenses you have. It also wouldn't hurt to say which you are comparing to. There are 3 different types of USM out there, and they are not all created equal.

Now your problem is going to be that I won't be able to answer you question because I only have 3 lenses (28-135 IS, 100-400L, 50 f1.8) so unless you are comparing between those lense I can't help you much.

Well, I have had trouble finding out something about either of those lenses.

The 35-80 was rated an average of 1.75 out of 5. A few said it has fast USM. But most said it was unsharp and generally bad. (One even said to not take it if it were free. Ouch!)

The 80-200 was rated much better (3.5 out of 5.) One said it has good AF performance. The biggest complaint was that it it had no manual focusing ring.

So I don't know what to tell you. I had to hunt deep to find that info, the two usual places I go didn't even have them listed.... which isn't a good sign. Purely on AF speed, they might be good. I don't know how well I can trust that site. but at least for the short lens, it sounds like you could do much better just as an all around lens.

All this comes from here:

I usuall use these review sites, but they didn't have anything:
