I just bought a Canon S5 IS. Are there any UV filters that naturally fit this camera, or is there an extension/adaptor that would allow a filter to be used? It appears to me as if there is no way that any filters can be attached to this camera.

Thanks,

There are plenty of options, but yes, you need an adapter tube first. Canon makes one for the camera;

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...delSuppliesAct

There is also a specialty company that makes their own, and also sells optional lenses and filters for the S5 and other Powershot cameras;

http://www.lensmateonline.com/ (position your pointer over the Canon S5 IS link on the upper left portion of the page to see a list of options to choose from)

http://www.lensmateonline.com/newsite/order_S2_1.html (this is the link to the Order page for the S5, where you can scroll through all the options, including UV filters.)

The Canon adapter tube is plastic, while the Lensmate one is metal.

Thanks for the info . . . I think we are going to go with the metal one that is not from Canon.

If your budget can stand it, you may also want an external flash to greatly improve your pictures in low light, or even as fill light in daytime. The Canon 430EX is quite powerful, fast, and flexible, if not a little expensive.
