Hey All,

I'm starting to see hints that the G9 is being discontinued. Dell all of a sudden stoped carrying the G9 and B&H is saying it's discontinued. Anybody hear anything? If it is I'm really going to be P.Oed!!!! I've only had mine for less that a month and already it's going out ????? I've been a Nikon man for well over 20 years but I thought I'd take a look elsewhere. If this is going to happend this fast, well Nikon isn't much better but at least all my stuff will match. Anybody hear anything ????

The same thing has happened with the SX100 and A720is. Canon must be getting ready to update a few cameras.

That is correct. Canon will be making a major announcement (probably on 26 August) before the end of August about new cameras. Expect model replacements for the A-720, the A-650, the S-5, and the G-9 in the digicam line.

The G9 has been available since August 2007. So it will have been on the market for about a year, which these days is just about standard with compacts. Just because you bought it last month shouldn't be a reason to be upsetwith Canon. That's like buying a car at the end of the model year and being upset that the new model is coming out. Either way, the G9 is a great camera and you should enjoy it, new and better cameras will continue to come on the market, there's nothing you can do about it.

Thank you to everyone that posted a reply. They all helped. I really like the one by Michi and the car. You are most correct, just because it's an "end of the year model" doesn't mean it isn't a good model. And besides, I wouldn't have bought the G9if it didn't have whatI looking for in the first place. So I have desided, because of all the nicepost, to go out and use my G9 to it's fullest and wait to see what suprises Canon has to offer this time.. Thank you again to all !!

Rick, just enjoy your G-9. It's a great camera and will be covered by a warranty too.

So reduced price G9 still makes a lot of sense IMO
