Looking into buying a Canon SD (SD 870is sounds good). Can you tell me the following:

Do all the SD cameras do bracketing (as in hdr, under over and right on exposure automaticly) ?

With all the features in the camera what does chdk have to add to the SD879is)?

When the camera adjust for horizontal or verticle composition is this automation just for the view finder or as images are stored on the memory and when viewed on pc?

Great

Where are you buying it from ?

I keep hearing a voice telling me to consider:

1/ SD750 ~ 3"lcd, no IS, 7.1 MP, 35-105 optical zoom about $190.00

2/ SD790 IS ~ 3"lcd, 10MP, 35-105 optical zoom about $260.00

At times the voice says wait for new models and get either a SD790IS. SD750 or a SD870IS @ reduced price.

Does it have all the bells and whistles (time laps, stitch assist color assist & swap)and wide angle view?

Adorama is a good place to shop as is B&H. J&R and Best Buy. I live in Brooklyn, NY so I like to shop out of state to beat 8.25% sales tax and go for free frt. Amazon has began collecting sales tax from NY'ers. Best Buy is a short drive from me but I earn lots of points from my credit card so I don't mind the tax. In the end of this month I will be able to get a $200 gift card so I plan to treat myself well with a new toy for big boys (a camera).

Yeah all the same stuff just with a better zoom 12x I believe.

**Edit** Missed cancelling the Canon sd870 it is already shipping. So I decided to keep it when it arrives instead of refusing delivery and paying to ship it back.

Check out this site for a review.

I have read and found it to be true that longer lenses despite IS tend to go off in sharpnes (the defense is when you shot with a 35mm camera how often did you get a true sharp shot hand held at 350mm). I enjoy a camera that can hide in my palm (I do not have bag hands) so I can shoot produce in fruit stores quick and without drawing too much attention.

If you camera looks small and amaturish to the untrained eye you are less likely to be challanged. I went to Vegas with my girl friend and shot in the casinos without being noticed.

Godd luck with your new toy and let me know how good or no good it is (bracketing and special effects).

Thanks icantsee

Those 3 models are very interesting

I think in my case Best Buy, J&R or one of the places that my credit card company gives gift cards for based on accumulated points would be best for me. Best Buy is not far from my home and they have a no questions asked return policy and often match or beat documented prices.

It looks like the SD line is the only cameras with Time Lapse, Auto Stitch, Color Accent and Color Swap.

The big decisions are:

3" or 2.5" lcd, I can live with 2.5"

28mm or 35mm wide angle view , auto stitch will make up for 28mm

Do I need IS, not sure most of my shooting is outdoors

Was looking at your web site. Very good photos. I like those on the food carving. There was a good show on that on cable not too long ago.

Thanks for sharing your insite and time,

"It looks like the SD line is the only cameras with Time Lapse, Auto Stitch, Color Accent and Color Swap."

The G9 has all that, but it is much bulkier than any SD model, and it is about to be replaced, so hard to find for a reasonable price. However, if you wanted one, you might keep an eye out for folks selling theirs on Ebay or Craigslist as they upgrade to the next series.
