I've been thinking about buying a S5 IS lately but with all the talk of the new "S6 IS" lately I've held off somehow. Today while looking at the Canon site I noticed this: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...;modelid=17630

20X optical........ with a wide of 28mm sounds good to me.

Yes. This is the successor to the S5. Many are disappointed that the SX1, an even better camera with the same lens, HD video and other small improvements, will not be available in the US.

My daughter has the S5 and it's a great camera. I will be buying the SX10 as soon as I've read a couple of reviews. The wide angle and long zoom are a significant improvement in my opinion. The video is important to me. Though it's not HD, the Canon SD videos are excellent with stereo sound. A new feature is being able to take a full resolution still during video without the video being interrupted.

That looks like a really cool P&S, I'm glad canon is keeping with this design. IMO, it's the best looking one too! I hope the noise issues are improved, that would be really great.

I received my Canon PowerShot SX10 IS yesterday. I have been using the S2 since it came out. So far I am happy with the SX10 and I was happy with the S2 which is still doing well after 10,000 shots.

I put some unedited video samples here which you can view online or you can download the originals: http://vimeo.com/album/36643

I put some stills here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/poncho_...780622/detail/

They were all quick shots, hand held, at the end of a hard day, on a windy day, started shooting about 20 minutes after I opened the package. Used auto mode. I put everything up, even the obvious bad shots. Hopefully will have time to do some better testing.

I did not edit or compress the videos which I uploaded to Vimeo

I copied them from the SD card and uploaded them directly to Vimeo.

I uploaded the files with download permissions. If you register with Vimeo, which is easy, fast, and free, you can download my original files.

They are not the best shot video but it was either put those up then or put nothing up for a while.

Poncho,

Thanks for posting those videos. I thought they were fine and answered the last question I had about the SX10. I was curious to see how the new video format looked. Everything about Canon video in cameras is fine, in my opinion. I like the sound, the IS, the autofocus etc. Some of the other cameras beat the SX10 on paper but either have poor sound, autofocus problems etc. HD would be nice but the VGA videos look just fine on my HD tv, just not as wide.

For my trips to Yellowstone and shots around the house during holidays, the SX10 looks like a winner all the way. I'll wait a few weeks till Amazon makes their first discount on the SX10.
