Hello,

which canon digital cameras that are recent are like the top of the line, as in the best models out of everything else?

I have a Canon SX10 and like it. However, I feel Canon is losing the race on smaller digital cameras by abandoning the A series,......that is, eliminating the viewfinder. The viewfinder on the A1000, the only one that retained it, is worthless. I own this camera and the viewfinder is totally inadequate for anything.

Canon seems to be more interested in how thin and in how many colors they can make their cameras in rather than sticking with quality features that made them the leader of the industry. I realize it's all about marketing but I suspect I have bought my last Canon. I presently own four of them. I thought I was a Canon lifer until this seasons "improvements" were announced.

Canon also seems to have bought into the idea that more megapixels is better, despite the size of the sensor. Canon has released several cameras with 12 mp and a 1/2.3 inch sensor. But picture quality has deteriorated from the previous versions of those cameras that had 8 or 10 megapixels.

You can get a nice high resolution photo with 7 or 8 megapixels. If you pack more megapixels into the same tiny sensor, digital noise will increase, making it necessary for the camera's processor to impose heavy noise reduction which will hurt the appearance of the picture. 12 megapixels is too many for a 1/2.3 inch sensor.

I think that would be something like a EOS 1Ds Mark III DSLR.

I opted to buy a bottom of the line A470 instead. :-)
