Default How good is CanonPowerShot A590 IS

Hi, I want to buy a digital camera for myself, I have always done film and now want an inexpensive digital. I saw this camera and I like that it had some options as far as going manual and adding lenses. Any comments on this camera and any suggestions on what to buy.

minimak-

The Canon A-590 was one of the top digital cameras of 2008. It has received excellent reviews. I am a digital camera instructor and I purchased an A-590 for our daughter for her gift last Christmas and she has really enjoyed the camera a lot.

Very good. The A590IS is the last Canon Powershot that takes AA batteries, has control over shutter speed and aperture, and takes filter adapters. The IQ is very good. This camera was just discontinued, so you better get one while you can. They are already gouging prices up above $200!

I got one for Christmas. I like it, but don't love it. The picture clarity is just not that crisp, which I found disappointing. It eats batteries, so keep some good quality rechargeable ones ready (I get about 100 shots, no video before the batteries are shot). This shot was taken with flash in a local museum.

I guess it depends on what you used to shoot with (SLR? P&S?) and what you want it for.

Default canon A590 IS response

i purchased AN A 590 is for $109 us from b&h last year and am very pleased with the IQ. It's not a dslr but i love it . I really cherish this camera and i would not get rid of it . Although am thinking of the G11 and the SX20 IS . I just recently got a handle on how to use the manual mode .

adventurer-

It looks like you are doing quite well with the Canon A-590. There is no reason not to move ahead to the Canon G-11 or the Canon SX-20. You will feel very much at home with the menus and camera operation. Be sure to read the manual.

Good Luck!
