Default What happened to SD880, discontinued?

I've been looking forward to buying the canon sd880 since May. Last night I was all set to place an order, but discovered it doesn't seem to be available from any major retailer -- none that I could find, anyway. It appears to have been discontinued. Does anyone know what happened to it and why?

The sd880 gets great reviews and is often recommended as the "best" compact point-and-shoot. If the sd880 is not available to buy anymore, would the sd780 be the next best option? Thanks.

(The forum software won't edit my last post, so here's a list of the sd880 features I was trying to add)

The sd880 gets great reviews and is often recommended as the "best" compact point-and-shoot. It has:
* 3" LCD monitor
* large controls (good for large fingers)
* 28mm wide angle lens
* 4x zoom
* good battery life
* etc etc

The sd780 has:
* 2.5" LCD monitor
* regular lens
* 3x zoom

Well, just called bhphotovideo and learned a few things that most of you all probably already knew:

Canon replaces models about every 8 months. The price starts high and drops gradually during that 8 months so the time to buy for best price is near the end of the product cycle. (In my case, the time to buy the sd880 was in may for $247.)

The sd880 was replaced by the sd960, which sells for $329. (In 6-8 months it should drop to around $250). The sd880 and sd960 both have the same wide-angle lens that's good for group shots, interiors, landscapes and scenery. The sd960 has HD video.

The sd780 has HD video like the sd960, but it does not have the wide angle lens.

The sd1200 is similar to the sd780 except it does not have HD video.
