Default SOFT RATTLING NOISE IN A80

I just bought a Canon A80 from a highly recommended on-line dealer. The camera is covered by a USA warranty.

It seems to work fine; however, I have noticed a soft rattling noise when I shake the camera (sounds almost like a tiny ballbearing is loose inside the camera).

Has anyone else noticed this noise? Could something have jostled loose during shipping? Is this something I should be concerned about?

It is normal. The noise is caused by the mechanical orientation sensor.

Thanks for the information. A big relief.

You are welcome.

From what I remember reading the same noise exists in the S400, the A70, the S45, the S50 the G3 and on and on.

I too have heard of this comment on several forums regarding several cameras... unfortunately the A70 isn't one of them, it lacks an orientation sensor.

Not meaning to nitpick your post flylow... just didn't want to see a half dozen posts from A70 owners saying their sensor wasn't working .

Kevin, happy owner of an unfortunately sensor-less A70.

I assumed it did because no one mentioned it not having one in all the many comparisons the A80 to the A70 posts I read. I have compared both cameras physically and by reading reviews and posts but I never have owned an A70. You did notice that I wrote "From what I remember". I left my self an out because I did not check personally double check the posts about the A70.

Thanks for correcting my error!

I try to be careful. I had a chuckle when a user posted the following comment over at:
http://www.dpreview.com/forums/forum.asp?forum=1010

"I had the S45 and traded it for the A70.
I had two main reasons for switching:

1. the S45 is twice as heavy. It fit in my pocket fine, but pulled my pants down too."

I had to comment since according to the camera specs at http://www.dpreview.com the s45 only weighs .3 ounces more than the A70 when they both have the batteries installed. I do not think that 3/10 of an ounce should be enough extra weight to cause some ones pants to fall off.
